Ksenia Egereva

Ksenia Egereva (b. 1984) is an artist working with object-based and audiovisual installation, digital painting and artificial intelligence. Born in Amursk, Russia. Lives and works in Bali, Indonesia.

The focus of her interest is the forces that act on a person before they can be named: among others, relationships, and the views and decisions of others. In her work the artist often constructs a situation in which the viewer's action becomes part of the piece, thereby making the viewer one of those forces.

Egereva's practice is based on a participatory approach and draws on the ideas of conceptual art: the experience of action is examined as a source of material. In her works she combines elements of symbolic painting, the readymade and installation. The artist works both with individual objects and with series.

The formal language is figurative and direct. In most works a force is drawn over the figure as a visible layer — barbed wire, a chain, ornament, a mirror in place of glass, the mood of a conversation on a screen. The palette changes from work to work.

Sources of inspiration are the themes of choice, reflection and what remains unspoken.
